Vision 1.93.06.2: TV music that goes the distance

Vision 1.93.06.2 and HA 2.5.12.5: TV music survives standby, the vertical home screen tidies itself, tablets become dashboards and allowed apps keep their images.

In one sentence: music on the TV no longer drops out after standby, the vertical home screen keeps itself tidy, a tablet can become a real dashboard and allowed apps keep their images.

This release brings together the Vision app 1.93.06.2 and the Home Assistant integration 2.5.12.4 and 2.5.12.5. It completes 1.93.06, released just before.

New

TV home screen in vertical layout

  • The Settings tile always stays last, and it can no longer be removed by mistake: the way to your settings is always there.
  • The app list fades gently at the top and bottom, so you can see at a glance that there's more.
  • Widgets fit on screen, with no overflow.

Tablet as a dashboard

  • New option to hide the app list. The tablet then shows only your widgets. To get back to the apps, long-press the clock, with a confirmation to avoid accidental taps.

Home Assistant dashboard

  • No more code to enter when you're signed in with your own parent account. The code is still required on a shared account, and every action is logged with the name of whoever did it.

PC sound level (optional module)

  • A sensor measures the average sound level picked up by a PC's active microphones. Microphones that are off or muted are ignored. This module is off by default.

Fixed

Music on the TV, now reliable

If you use the TV as the house music player, this release is for you:

  • After the TV goes to standby, the player reconnects by itself. Before, it could stay disconnected: playback went to another device, with no sound and a progress bar stuck at 0:00.
  • When the TV is off, the player simply waits for it to wake up, instead of trying to reconnect over and over.
  • Clicking a track in the queue always plays that track, not another one.
  • No more "ghost clicks": pressing OK can no longer open another app by mistake.
  • After a long pause, playback resumes where it left off.

All of this was validated with 30 minutes of continuous playback.

Parental control

  • Major mobile apps keep their images. Snapchat, Instagram, WhatsApp, TikTok, YouTube… show their photos and thumbnails even when their category is closed, as long as the app is allowed on the device. Ad-tracking servers stay blocked. To learn more, see our overview of parental control with Home Assistant.

What you need to do

The app updates by itself, and the Home Assistant integration moves to 2.5.12.5. If you'd like the PC sound level, turn on the "Sound level" module.

What's next

1.94 is in the works: a "Report a problem" button, notifications with images and GIFs, and automatic discovery of which app uses which website. It's all on the roadmap, and the full history on the project page.
